post-tx recovery...visions of hope
« on: September 08, 2010, 08:31:34 PM »
I thought I would start a thread that just might inspire our friends who are currently on Tx. I remember very well how disheartening it can be, stuck in a moment that seems endless, sick & tired of being sick & tired. I hope others post-tx will jump in and give out a little inspiration.

I'm 15 weeks post, and today I spent some time taking note of my health. I was almost shocked at how good I feel, and no, I don't know if Tx worked yet, I'll find out in December. I'm 2 months shy of 58 years old, but today I felt 15 years younger. I feel strong, happy and spiritually alive. Looking back, it's becoming increasingly apparent that I had been feeling the effects of hep c for at least a few years before I was diagnosed.

I really believe that recovery is a gift to be appreciated and embraced. I'm happy for every time I can fly up the stairs again, lift something heavy, and laugh from the belly. I thought Tx would never end and I didn't expect to feel so good. Some of us recover quickly, some a little longer...but we do recover. There have been several members who described how good they felt just giving their livers a break, even though they had relapsed. Now that's inspiring!

If you're on Tx, take it easy and all of a sudden, it will be over. Healing will begin. Honest. Just hang in there, one day at a time.

peace

I remember posting something similar about 3 or so weeks after tx. How strangely odd it was looking back before tx and how I felt then. I felt better than I had in years. My mind and body felt sturdy and sound. Also as I posted it hit me that I was HAPPY. So strange it is to look back and realize that I should have know there was something wrong, but at that point I got it.

It truly is amazing.

Rocker,

good idea.  I am currently 9 months post treatment and I feel great.  Being SVR helps that, but even without that, I would be feeling good.  I got back into the gym as quickly as I could, stayed active, returned to reading, etc and fought to get back to "normal" ASAP.

This was my third round, so I knew what to expect on treatment and what to expect after.  I will admit that my overall sides were never that bad on any of my rounds of treatment, so that may have an affect, but I still am thankful for my recovery and all my friends on this site.

On a side note, the crashing of the site has been a blessing to me.  After passing 4400 posts, I was focusing too much on how many posts and not just reading and really listening to what others on the site were saying.......so while I am on just as often, my goal is to let others go for that milestone of being the one with the most posts.

Been there done that, moved on.

Well said, Grey.
Thanks for the encouragement and vision of hope, which I think I really need at this point.

I am now a big four days post-treatment
(coinciding with the site crash, so I'm thankful for the line of demarcation too, Banarep)
and am still waiting for some magic energy burst to happen. It's such a thrill to get through the 11 months, that it's hard to remember that the drug build up still needs to cycle through.

I know, I know, so I'm an impatient optimist...what can I say?

As I've said before, I'm looking forward to looking back.

Hop, I responded early to the end of meds, but a little longer than 4 days. Hopefully in a few more, it will be better. Sort of sneaks up on you.

Yes, I agree that feeling better after tx, whether you clear or not, does sneak up on you. I have always kept a journal throughout my life. I went back and read through some of them before diagnosis, and realized I had not felt well for quite some time.
I have also gone through tx more than once, and do agree that it does give your body a break. It helps your liver get a break from the  :dragon: . Now it has been the longest time off tx and I am getting ready to try it again. I need it. I will not let this  :dragon: defeat me. I have a goal. I want to feel good again, like Sweet Sue speaks about.

Great news Greyrocker!  I know how tough it was getting for you towards the end, but you kept it together, and got through this thing, all the while working hard and helping others.  You truly have been an inspiration to us all.  I just know that SVR is right around the corner for you.  Well deserved my friend!!!

Awww, shucks, kab...  :embarrassed: Thanks, jimmer.

As far as staying around here, I did cool it for a while; needed to take a break. However, staying in touch with my pal BR and watching his leadership around here has made me realize that it's time to give back like others gave to me. Yes, that would include you, kab. I'll never forget the wonderful distraction from anemia that your trip gave me. My cyber journey with you, BR, PC and mean ol' Hope Life  riding shotgun was very therapeutic.

DJ, this time will be your time for success! We're all here for you as you have been for us.

Here's a little side note. I've had a lot of pain the last couple of days from what appears to be gout. Doesn't matter. I'll see my doc today, but this is nothing compared to Tx, so I'll choose to be happy today.  :joyful:

Gout, you and Ben Franklin.

Take care of yourself buddy, a man of your advanced age needs to be more careful.  If need be, I can send you up a Texas Walker.
