And, you thought the dragon was sleeping...
« on: September 06, 2010, 11:44:24 PM »
Hmmmm,

You thought the dragon was sleeping and it's now infected the site and database... You have my support and although the site is in no way mobile browser friendly here I am!!

I'm one year post treatment come Wednesday (my birthday) - 6 months was clear but I'm afraid... I know it's back, I can feel it now that I know what to look for (all those years prior to diagnosis I just felt run down and tired)

Anyway, as a service connected disabled veteran I depend upon VA healthcare - well, Obizzle and his healthcare reform has (blank) that up - the VA is operating without a budget... Services have been cut and I can't get my tests approved...

Ironically, they continued to mail me my interferon and RIBA snacks for 4 months after I completed treatment and they (interferon) are still in my fridge - no cloudeness and expiration dates still good... Thinking about self medicating with my stash (what could it hurt if medication is still good)

Besides, that dragon needs a good    kicking for infecting that database!!!

And yeah, I'm old skool - read more, post less...
But, that's what I had to say...

I think a blood test would be in order if you're not feeling well.  I sure wouldn't want to start self medicating on a hunch!  I think it's very rare for the dragon to return if you're clear at 6 months.  Have you talked with your Doctor?

RE: Read more, post less...

LOL - nothing for nothing but there's nothing to read anymore...

But, I know it's back - I can truly feel the dragon and come Wednesday, I'm making that decision to use that 4 months of treatment I have and Obizzle and his I'll run healthcare program can kiss my dragon slaying a**

Can I say its very normal to have this feeling its back when PCRs are due, especially if you have any health niggles around that time...
In all my years advocating HCV and thats many years now I have only seen one person that the virus returned.....and my believe was his 6 moth test was flawed....
Do not self medicate! its dangerous without medical supervision, and 4 months of medication will do nothing but make you feel even more like crap.

You say you feel run down and tired, get some blood tests done, check thyroid, full blood count you could be anemic and get a vitamin D test you could be deficient of that.....

It takes time for the medicine to get out of your system. It takes up to six months or longer for some; shorter time for others. Even though I am SVR 2 1//2 years; once in a while I will get that tired achy feeling like I had before I was diagnosed. However, the next test will still show UND.
Diagnosed in 2005. Thirty weeks of treatment in 2006 and 48 weeks of treatment in 2007. Undetectable!

I swear I replied to this, even know what I typed, but it ain't here.  Weird.

Hey WD80,

Just so you know I slightly edited your post, just removed two almost words, you'll see what I mean.  Sorry about that but there is a rule that we ain't supposed to do that.  I do want to apologize for that though, hate to change anything at all.  Please don't shoot me.

On the self medication...

Man don't do it.  It's will mess you up on a number of different levels.  If by some really weird chance you have relapsed then 48 weeks wasn't good enough.  This virus does mutate and become drug resistant like most virus do.  There is no way 16 weeks will do what 48 weeks failed to and in the meantime you increase the likelihood the virus will become drug intolerant.  And plus, heck a year or so and you'll have a drug that promised to give you a real chance of success.

Everything in medicine, heck most of life too, is risk versus reward.  You have zero chance of reward by doing 16 weeks worth of drugs.  Inadequate time for liver regeneration, inadequate time for viral suppression, so no reward, but the risk, drug resistance (even more then current), if you had issues first time around, second time tends to be even worse, so mild anemia might now be serious, but you'd have no way to know of evaluate problems like that without labs, plus of course the potential of all the lovely side effects.

Man you're old school?  Well heck then this would be like givin' a man a bunch of money for a dead dog.  No matter what you do that dog ain't gonna hunt.  Ya know?

good point doug.  16 weeks is not enough to do anything.  wait for the new meds to come out, if you can.  have not heard yet if the VA is going to offer them or not, but I think they should.
