New site-new update
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:21:35 AM »
Well, it has been awhile since I have posted any official update on myself here. I have been scarce, but still around!  :) I hope to keep up on things closer here, in the future.
I have not been able to get around much the latter part of this summer. The rheumatologist thought it was rheumatoid arthritis, triggered by the hep C. It was frustrating, as nothing helped very much. It just seemed that my knees became more and more painful. She seemed to be stalling til I "got rid of the hep C", and then things would be better!!  :o  >:( Well, she finally ordered an MRI, and now she has referred me to an orthopedist, as it seems to be osteoarthritis!! The meds she had me on for RA were not good for my liver either.  >:( So we shall see.
I also went through gastric surgery, and had a lap band put in, in June. This was a referral from my hepatologist, as being overweight seems to lower success rates for patients on treatment. So I have lost 50 pounds, thus far. (I had gained a lot of weight since coming off tx back in 2007.) I have an appointment with my hep doc this month, and believe he will be prepping me for going on the new med in May. He thinks it will be approved by then. I learned this from another member here, that has the same doctor. I will verify this with him on the 14th of this month.
Anyway, it has been a long, house-bound summer, but hopefully things will be looking better soon.

I will keep everyone updated.

DJ,  thanks for the update.  I hope all goes well and you can get the new meds this winter and kill that damn dragon.

Dawn, great news losing 50 lbs.  I am sorry to hear about the osteoarthritis. I have it too and the anti inflammatory meds are bad for the liver and stomach. We are in a catch 22.
